HOW-TO: Minimalist Style

The minimalist look is both elegant, stylish, on trend and easy to recreate! I know this may sound a little skeptical but in today’s post I’m going to share my style tips on turning your wardrobe into a minimalist wardrobe (and without breaking the bank)!

There are a few wardrobe essentials you will need to make your fresh look more seasonal and on trend, but to be honest, your individual style compliments the minimalist look…

*******

#1: The White Shirt

The first piece of clothing you’ll need to find in your wardrobe or go shopping for is not any white shirt, but THE white shirt. Depending on your shape, personal style and preference, I’d recommend investing in a fancy patterned collared shirt for an Edwardian inspired look. For more style tips check out STYLE FILES: Channel Edwardian.

Or a long flowing white shirt will also go wonderfully with ankle boots or man-style loafers (trend alert) and a pair of oversized black sunglasses.

For a more relaxed vibe, pair a loose fitting linen shirt dress with a messy top knot and a trendy bucket bag…

#2: The Classic Turtleneck

If you’re a stickler to a neutral wardrobe colour palette, I’d recommend pairing your favourite turtleneck with a felt fedora and sneakers…

For my top style tips for styling a felt fedora you may be interested in Trend Update: The Felt Fedora. I’d recommend a chunky knit for extra warmth and comfort… Another great aspect of this wardrobe essential, is that you are channeling three Autumn 2016 trends at once, the felt fedora, the minimalist look, and street style, for more click here: HOW-TO: STREET STYLE.

#3: The All Black Outfit

Pull out everything black this season, because black is the new black. I know, I know, this look has never faded from fashion, but nows one of the best time to be channeling this edgy yet classic and chic look…

I’d recommend pairing black culottes or fitted jeans with black edgy ankle boots or strap heels and a chunky turtleneck sweater or blouse, and a pair of Ray Bans. If you worried this look is a little too lacking in colour or not edgy enough to fit in with your style, have a look at how Selena Gomez rocked this trend… It might just change your mind.

#4: The All White Outfit

On the other end of the spectrum, an all winter white outfit is also very fresh and surprisingly adds a pop of zest into your Minimalist style. Think wrap coats and trenches, I’d recommend Forever New’s coat collection, neutral culottes, I’d recommend Seed Heritage or Witchery for some edgy shapes and fits. Sneaker wise, I’d  suggest Supergas or Adidas Stan Smiths (all white) for the full effect.

#5: The Little Black Dress

This turtleneck inspired fitted number is a modern take on the classic little black dress. Paired with sneakers this look can achieve a street style vibe, or patent heels for a work function.

#6: Modern Lace

Whether your a dress kinda girl, adore flowing sleeved blouses, or Edwardian collared shirts, there is a lace garment out there for you. Seed Heritage and Witchery have both released some wonderful collections which include lace prints and styles, perfect for any occasion.

#7: The Pleated Skirt

Whether you’re a maxi, midi, or mini kinda fashionista, investing in an elegant and feminine pleated skirt this Autumn & Winter season is something you won’t regret. This versatile wardrobe essential looks fresh and chic with a oversized peter pan collared shirt in Spring and can look edgy and cool paired with a chunky turtleneck sweater or blazer in Winter.

#8: The Statement Overcoat

I won’t say too much as I have a whole blog post going online very soon on this seasons top coats (excuse the pun 🙂 ) with loads of style tips and shop recommendations. However I will say this: Every fashionista needs neutral hued over coat this Autumn/Winter season. Whether it’s all camel, has a grey check, all winter white, all black, you name it. Every fashionista will have one this season, and that includes you!

#9: The Statement Shades

Almost every fashionable minimalist ensemble includes a statement pair of shades. I’m currently loving these TopShop sunglasses in tortoiseshell…

#10: The Bucket Bag

Lastly, but certainly not least in my top ten wardrobe essentials to make your look more minimalist, would be the number one accessory! It’s both a practical handbag that is guaranteed to fit all your handbag essentials (and your non essentials – because lets face it, we all have an overflowing handbag from time to time…) And it is on trend and very chic. Perfect for a girls day out, a weekend picnic, or work function, this ‘it bag’ of the season is everything you’ve ever dreamed of…

I’d recommend Mansur Gavriel for an authentic Italian calf leather bucket bag with a complimentary detachable wallet and adjustable strap. What’s not to love?

Can you tell I’m a little obsessed about it? 🙂
