You may have noticed that pyjama inspired dressing and slip dresses are becoming increasingly popular this year. I first noticed this trend during the european fashion weeks earlier this year, but have noticed the trend has become a growing trend within Australia. With Spring well and truly here, (finger’s crossed the warm & sunny weather lasts), and Summer not far away, now’s the ideal time to try out these trends for yourself.
In today’s post I’m sharing some of my favourite pyjama inspired looks and outfits and how to style them according to your personal style. Enjoy! 🙂
A Subtle Hint
If you’re keen to experiment with pyjama dressing but not quite sure how to incorporate this ever-growing trend into your everyday style, I’d suggest starting out with a subtle hint of the trend. Whether it be a silk pyjama inspired shirt or blouse paired with denim jeans and bright accessories, or a pair of linen pyjama inspired culottes dressed down with a loose fitting tee and sneakers, there are endless techniques to subtly introducing the trend into your Spring wardrobe.
A Colourful & Playful Look
If you’re feeling like a style challenge, then I’d suggest colourful separates. By mixing two different patterns or block colours or creating a modern take on the iconic twin set, you can create a edgy yet elegant vibe, ready to wear out onto the street. Talk about #streetstylevibes… Pair your bold look with simple accessories in neutral shades like tan and grey for added elegance and balance.
If you’re looking for a more classic take on nighttime dressing, sleek minimalist separates are a great option. You can easily recreate Olivia Palermo’s monochrome look by pairing silk or linen neutral seperates with statement flats or heels, a classic clutch or bucket bag (see here for how to style the bucket bag), and statement shades. The beauty of this minimalist look is that it’s ever so versatile, making it effortlessly easy to wear this look to fashion week or a romantic dinner date in the CBD.
If you’re looking for a way to incorporate pyjama dressing into your work wardrobe, don’t fear – there’s plenty of options suitable for creating a work wear outfit (or two). By pairing a sleek modern take on the classic two piece suit (think neutral, pastels and monochrome flairs, culottes, and pleats), with a delicate lace blouse and edgy heels (think mules and/or lace up heels – for more shoe styling tips click here), you can a polished and fashionable outfit, ready for the office, meetings with clients, fashion week, you name it!
The Slip Dress – Street Style
The slip dress trend has been snapped on the street, runways and blogged about by style influencers worldwide throughout the past few seasons, and this Spring is no exception. For a street style inspired vibe, I’d recommend pairing a bright or neutral block colour with a classic neutral tee or loose shirt, minimalist shades, and statement shoes – (think velvet wedges, lace up heels, and mules – for more Spring shoe inspo click here)… A designer clutch and minimalist jewelry never goes astray either… 🙂
The Slip Dress – Work Wear
If you’re looking to incorporate the slip dress into your work wear wardrobe this season, it’s the perfect dress for the warmer weather that stays polished and elegant no matter if it’s 18 degrees or 30 degrees. I’d suggest pairing a neutral hued design with minimalist heels or flats, a tailored classic blazer and an over the shoulder understated designer handbag. Beauty wise – I’d recommend keeping your makeup simple and classic, and a classic bob or low ponytail.
